Returning Fellows: one last week of refreshers! Please review and complete one of the existing trainings from last fall that you would like a refresher on. As you complete the training, what feedback do you have for improving this training? What suggestions do you have for a “Level II” training on this tool? Reflect in a post on your portfolio site.

I made a new Omeka site to go through another training. I felt like the training overall was really helpful. The hardest part for me was definitely setting up a new subdomain and installing Omeka because it’s pretty finicky, but I feel like Omeka itself is pretty intuitive. I also found myself recalling the lessons we learned about metadata and why it’s so important from our DST-295 class. I think something that might be helpful on the training website is a guideline/explanation about what pieces of metadata are important and what each one means. I feel like I remember from class and learned over my summer internship that we don’t need to put in every piece of metadata but it would be helpful to know. I was happy to practice Omeka because it gave me a good practice of posting photos and metadata which is relevant to my Vivero project this semester.
