Hi! I’ve embedded my Digital Portfolio that I have been working on this past month. I really wanted to collate all of the digital tools I have worked on over the past couple years. I think it is a good example of how StoryMaps can be a good host for portfolios. I wanted to work on it because it’s good professional development for me personally. I also used it as a way to share with a student to share what a StoryMaps can look like and try and pick and choose how they might want to model their StoryMap for a class assignment. It helped me as a peer mentor to work on it parallel with this student. It also helped me as a peer mentor reflect on the work I’ve done, the tools I have learned in the process, and where my strengths and weaknesses are. I also had to reevaluate my own media library which is helpful for my future job applications. Redesigning my own media library is helpful for me as a peer mentor because that is currently part of my project with faculty–we are working on creating a new media library since we are expecting to have a new system of media coming in. As our new media comes in, it’s easier to collect it with a good new system than trying to rebuild an existing system. The digital portfolio took me a lot longer to finish than I expected which is also a good reminder for me as a peer mentor that everything takes a long time 🙂
For my next project, I really want to go through the training for Twine and work on a more creative project. It goes hand in hand with my GWS-495 class, Feminist Imaginaries, where we have been discussing how games and digital spaces can be really revolutionary (especially when tech and digital spaces can quickly turn into harmful spaces). I want to create a fun space that has a social justice aspect in it. I think it will be a good tool for me as a peer mentor because it will be very engaging and also very different than any other tools I’ve really worked with.
