Hi! Here is a link to my March project, which is a little bit of a guide to digital storytelling tools. I really wanted to create this because I find the hardest part of any project the process of picking a tool. I wanted to hone in on these tools because they are so similiar but also have really distinct functions and purposes, so I tried to focus on the differences of each one. The hardest part was definitely trying to articulate how to make the decision because so many can accomplish the same thing, but sometimes one gives you a better foundation or has better details.

I started with a summary/table of contents of each tool, as well as a series of questions for people to consider while they are learning about each tool. I also really wanted to create a flowchart which is hard (!!!) but it was really fun to make and I think it could be really helpful. I also went through each tool and found a video tutorial, and wrote an about page combining information from the documentation page and the tools’ own websites. I also gave my own ideas for project examples and then found real examples.

Creating this tool was really helpful for my own understanding because it really made me rethink how to explain the functions/differences/similiarities of each tool without just being able to show someone an example. I was also reflecting on how I might have modeled my own projects or reframed my own projects to fit on a different tool, and of course how much StoryMaps is just the superior tool and my all-time favorite. Going through this really helped me think about how I would teach someone else these tools.
